Dr. H. V. Hande

Dr. H. V. Hande born in Coimbatore on 28th November 1927, is a medical practioner who has been practising since 1950 at Shenoy nagar.
Dr. Hande entered politics in 1942, when as a college student, he participated in the Quit india movement. His political mentor from 1965 onwards was the renowned statesman, C. Rajagopalachari(Rajaji).
Dr Hande was elected to the Tamil nadu legislature for five terms. He was the minister for health in MGR's cabinat in 1980 and again in 1984. He received the B. C Roy Award in 1985 for his excellent work in the field of Health.
Dr. Hande is fluent in several languages, namely Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and English. He always took up the cudgels on behalf of the underdog. His oratory, and excellent debating talents and organizational skills, have won for him accolades from such illustrious personages as Rajaji, Kamaraj, Anna, MGR and Karunanidhi.
Dr. Hande's English rendering in prose of KAMBA RAMAYANAM reveals his deep knowledge of Tamil culture and his good command of Tamil and English. It is significant that a full rendering in English prose of this great Tamil epic has been done for the first time, by Dr. Hande.
His book, a biography of late lamented Rajaji in Tamil, entitled " MOOTHARIGNAR RAJAJI " was released in march 1999 and has been very well received by the people of Tamilnadu.
Dr.H.V.Hande's residnece at Nungambakkam was recently converted into a Poly Clinic Dr.Hande continues to practice at Hande Hospital - Shenoy Nagar and in June 2010 he completed 60 continuous years of Clinical Practice. He has been a family Physician for four generations of patients. |
